Enactive Motion Tracking: Embodied Cognition, User Interface Design & Autism Intervention

M.Phil Music & Media Technologies Thesis  2023

Trinity College Dublin, Dept. of Engineering

This project explores an alternative approach to Autism Spectrum Disorder intervention system design. Embodied Cognition and the Enactive worldview reframe one’s approach to reality. Perception and sensorimotor activity are core aspects that inform one’s experience as an embodied human. Contemporary approaches to Autism Spectrum Disorder categorisation and analysis are presented in this work, questioning what is a successful intervention system outcome. An Enactive approach to an exploratory design is presented. Key elements for inclusion are established, implemented, and tested as part of a realised Enactive Autism Spectrum Disorder intervention system.

The purpose of this project is to present an alternative, Enactive approach to Autism Spectrum Disorder intervention system design, and contribute to the diverse range of research in this area.
